Scorpio Full Moon: Into the Depths of Creative Transformation

Scorpio Full Moon – May 12, 2025
Plunge into the depths, rise with new light.

The full moon is always a time of illumination. But when it rises in Scorpio—a sign known for intensity, transformation, and emotional depth—it invites us into the darker, hidden parts of ourselves. Scorpio is a water sign, and its waters are not surface-level—they’re deep, mysterious, and healing.

This full moon stirs the emotional sediment that has settled in the shadowy corners of our inner ocean. What’s been buried may rise—unprocessed grief, old wounds, unspoken truths. But this is not cause for fear. Scorpio teaches us to dive in bravely, to bring darkness into the light so healing can begin.

When tears flow, I ask:
“What is showing up that is ready to be seen, understood, greeted with self-compassion, and released?”

The Gift of Taurus

Every full moon has a companion—the sun in the opposite sign. While the moon pulls us inward, the sun offers grounding. In this lunation, Taurus is that anchor. Taurus energy is earthy, steady, and nurturing. It invites us to create cozy spaces and move slowly through our emotions.

If you feel overwhelmed during this full moon, honor the call to hunker down. Nourish yourself with warm teas, hearty soups, soft blankets, and rest. Taurus reminds us that healing is not hurried—it is slow, deliberate, and deeply rooted.

Mandala as Sacred Mirror

Creating a mandala at the full moon offers a safe and sacred space to explore what is surfacing. Here’s how I created my Scorpio Full Moon mandala:

  1. Begin with the Four Gates mandala stencil from StencilGirl Products.
  2. Center it with the Sacral Chakra stencil—the chakra connected to water and emotional flow.
  3. Add Scorpio glyphs at each gate—think of them as wise gatekeepers who show you how to bravely dive deep.
  4. Include Pluto glyphs in the corners, symbolizing transformation and deep change.
  5. Paint with watercolors, embracing the fluidity of the element.
  6. Add texture with water:
    • Sprinkle salt onto wet watercolor paint. Let dry, then rub off.
    • Place scrunched plastic wrap over damp areas and let dry.
  7. Finish with detail work using markers and charcoal pencil for details and depth.
  8. Journey of the Four Gates—as you work with each of the four directions (air, water, fire, earth), notice how each of these are showing up in your (thoughts, emotions, spirit, body).

Taurus Mandala Variation

If you feel more connected to the nurturing energy of Taurus, try this variation:
Use earth-toned Art Graf watercolor paints, to evoke the richness of soil. Use the primary set, mixing colors to create beautiful greens and violets. Place the Root Chakra at the center for grounding and stability.

Reflection & Integration

  • What emotions or memories are surfacing now that I’ve been avoiding or suppressing?
  • How can I gently bring compassion and curiosity to the darker parts of my inner world?
  • What do I need to feel safe, grounded, and supported as I move through emotional transformation?

This post is part of my Traveling by Moonlight series, where we pause at each lunation to reflect on the archetypes of the zodiac and create art as a spiritual practice.
